Flooded Basement Cleanup in Chicagoland
A flooded basement rarely announces its cause. Most of the calls we take describe standing water and nothing else — the sump that stopped, the sewer line that backed up, or the storm that pushed groundwater through a window well only becomes clear once someone is standing in it. That matters, because the cause determines whether the water is clean, grey or contaminated, and that in turn determines what can be dried and what has to come out. We start every basement call by identifying the source, then scope the work to the category of water we actually find.
What the work involves
- Identify the water source and category before any demolition — it changes the entire scope
- Extract standing water with truck-mounted units, then pull carpet and pad where it cannot be saved
- Flood-cut affected drywall and remove wet insulation so the cavity can dry
- Apply antimicrobial, set air movers and dehumidifiers sized to the space
- Log moisture readings daily so the drying is documented for your adjuster
Flooded basements are our single largest category of summer work and made up 57% of the jobs on our board this July.
